Weekend in Istanbul

Material Story

On the two shores of the Bosphorus stands Istanbul, a city rich in history and a crossroads of cultures blending arabesque and European art. Moving between the two continents, you can admire the extraordinary architecture overlooking the strait. A lace by Blue on Blues Fashion Fabrics recreates a monumental baroque gate that frames the view, making it part of an artistic masterpiece. The neighbourhoods unfold, and the houses create delicate panna and beige depths, like a fabric by Tessilbiella under the slender Galata Tower. Between two shades of blue, the reliefs and carvings catch the eye, along with the warm subtle nuances of the stone, reminiscent of a Tessil Opera fabric. The Ortaköy Mosque rises imposingly as a sacred landmark over the water. On the mainland, you can visit the Grand Bazaar, where you’ll be enchanted by the local craftsmanship. Light, richness, and sumptuousness drip heavily from the ceiling in pierced brass chandeliers, much like the leather accessories by Argopel. The opulence continues in the large decorative plates hanging on the walls, one above the other, resembling a pattern by Knipidee Fabrics. Floral and modular motifs are as precious as the golden words engraved on the grand trays. The scents grow stronger and more intense as you step into the Spice Bazaar, brimming with a kaleidoscope of aromas. The dim lighting seems to diffuse the fragrances of dried red fruits and petals neatly arranged on the shelves. Crimson stripes that inspire Fumeo Carlo’s ties. Handwoven rugs become the market’s tapestry, dressing it in geometric patterns draped over columns, creating a texture akin to Linton Tweeds. The continuity between arts fuels imagination and wonder. Textile designs extend into the mosques, where flowers and branches take on the gentle angularity of mosaic tiles. A fabric by Stephen Walters covers the vaults and domes without leaving empty spaces. Outside, however, the architectural elements maintain their intricate forms: arches, columns, and minarets reaching toward the sky with a sharpness reminiscent of a Zip Goffredo | Zip GFD zipper. The subdued grey tones of the exterior safeguard the vibrant colours that pulse within the buildings' interiors. A Géneros de Punto Fabrés fabric, in soft orange hues, expands the dome further with its Art Deco pattern in the Taksim Mosque.
