The kingdom of the gods

Material Story

Nestled between India and China, Nepal preserves the spiritual soul of the Himalayas: a land suspended between sky and mountains, where Hinduism and Buddhism coexist within an atmosphere steeped in silence, prayer and devotion. In Kathmandu, the Boudhanath Stupa dominates the space with its spire adorned with lace-like decorations and prayer flags dancing in the wind, echoed in the cords by Nastrificio Victor. Nearby, the furs and alpaca fabrics by Mapel & Stelloni take on beige tones reminiscent of the coats of the macaques that inhabit the Swayambhunath complex, the famous Monkey Temple, where the sacred and the everyday intertwine without boundaries. On Phewa Lake, in Pokhara, colourful boats float lightly upon the still water, reflecting vivid fuchsia and bright blues onto the canvases by Manifattura Foderami Cimmino. In Pumdikot, meanwhile, buttons and ribbons by PB Accessories come together in the imposing figure of Shiva: fifteen metres of majesty watching over the Nepalese valleys, embodying the eternal strength of one of Hinduism’s greatest deities. In Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha, the golden statue of the young Siddhartha Gautama tells the legend of the Seven Steps, while the buttons by Prym Fashion Italia capture its warm and precious light. The meshes by LMA glow with the same intense red as the roofs of the Bhairavnath Temple, which rises with its elegant pagoda structure in Taumadhi Square, Bhaktapur. As the sun sets, the summit of Ama Dablam, in the Khumbu region, lights up with golden and pink reflections that seem to dissolve across the canvases by Beste. A little further on, the prints by E.Miroglio EAD – Brand SEM / KBC become imbued with the vivid and ritualistic tones of the sacred masks of Newari culture, guardians of ancient myths and ancestral traditions. The pagoda roofs of the Taleju Temple reflect sugar and burnt red hues that re-emerge in the wool fabrics by Lanificio Bottoli. Finally, the luminous white by Hausammann + Moos 1811 blends with delicate beige tones to give shape to the Shanti Stupa, the World Peace Pagoda: a silent presence standing against the sunset as a universal symbol of a peace that today appears as fragile as it is necessary.
