Discovering Georgia

Material Story

With its solemn architecture and breathtaking panoramas, Georgia welcomes us on an immersive journey of discovery through a surprising land, rich in history and unexpected beauty. Within the walls of Narikala Fortress in Tbilisi rises the Church of St Nicholas: its rustic elegance reflects its hues in the fibres by Lanificio di Tollegno, while tartan and twill by Magee Weaving intertwine to convey the expansive breath of the city seen from above. In Kutaisi, the Bagrati Cathedral is lit by the morning sun, creating a vibrant contrast with the surrounding lawn, echoed in the canvases by Sidogras. The green by Reda, paired with Prince of Wales checks, recalls the Chronicle of Georgia monument, a sculpted narrative spanning kings and queens, biblical episodes and chapters of national history. In Batumi, the Armenian Church of Christ the Saviour rises among the branches, lending the cottons by Vilarinho delicate hues and essential geometric patterns. The jerseys by Bugis / Guigou / Sfate & Combier absorb the tones of the evocative rock-hewn monastery of Vardzia, while the vastness of the Caucasus Mountains enchants with its deep greens, echoed in the linens of Spence Bryson Linens. In the Alazani Valley, at the heart of the Kakheti region, the fabrics by Stam Art Group are dressed in light green and brown stripes, reflecting the gentle shades of the wine-growing landscape. Finally, the iconic Ali and Nino installation by Georgian artist Tamara Kvesitadze rises eight metres high as an eternal symbol: its gleaming forms converse with the metallic textures by J-Val, while accessories by A.C.M. evoke the Clock Tower of the Rezo Gabriadze Marionette Theatre, sealing the poetic and surprising soul of Georgia.
