Winter in Sicily

Material Story

While in summer Sicily captivates with the brilliance of its beaches and the crystal clarity of its sea, in winter it unveils a different character, defined by tranquil elevations, volcanic scenery and horizons that dissolve into the meeting point of sky and land. Overlooking the waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea, the striking peninsula of Capo Calavà extends its contours between rocky outcrops and Mediterranean vegetation, allowing its hues to be reflected in the wool and cashmere by Mehler Woollen Solution. A little higher up, in the timeless charm of Erice, the trimmings by Manifattura Modenese seem to intertwine until they recreate the silhouette of Torretta Pepoli, suspended between history, legend and breathtaking views. On the slopes of Mount Etna, a cable car glides slowly along its line, crossing the volcanic landscape and inspiring the designs of the patches created by Ricamificio Aschei. All around, the colours of the mountain spread across the virgin wool by Lanificio Roma, which appears to absorb the shades of lava-rich earth and snow near the upper cable car station. The gaze then opens towards the Gulf of Catania and the Ionian coast, where the southern flank of Etna reveals itself in all its grandeur, with the great volcanic cone cloaked in snow, recalling the purity of the virgin wool by Manifattura del Prato. Meanwhile, the tweeds by Jules Tournier capture the muted tones of the clouds brushing the summit, slowly dissolving into the winter sky. In Taormina, the Ancient Theatre emerges as a harmonious presence within the landscape, where stone and vegetation coexist in perfect balance, giving rise to the natural tones by Lino per sempre / Northern Linen. Further west, in Gibellina, the stripes and checks by Luxury Jersey reinterpret the monumental geometries of Burri’s Grande Cretto. As the sun begins to sink towards the horizon, the coastline of Cefalù comes alive with shifting reflections: cliff, sea and sky merge into a delicate palette that seems to imprint itself upon the pleated fabrics by Omniapiega. Finally, Etna returns as the protagonist during the most evocative hour of the day, when the tartans and pink tones by Lane di Prato – Classico, Contemporary, Luxury capture the rosy shades of twilight intertwining with the vapours surrounding the mountain. Together, they evoke the almost dreamlike atmosphere of the volcano at dusk, immersed in a gentle mist coloured by the fading light.
