Product and Description

  • PYRATEX® Rewear 4
  • PYRATEX® rewear 4 is a soft and supple interlock fabric made with 100% circulose fiber derived from textile waste blended with woodpulp.

Less than 1% of clothing is recycled into new garments, and around 50% of textile waste is downcycled, incinerated or landfilled. Recycling textile-to-textile is challenging due to the composition and blends of the materials. However, our PYRATEX® rewear fabrics are designed to address this problem by utilising pre- and post-consumer waste as a resource and reintroducing it back into the fabric composition.

Fueled by 100% renewable energy, this innovative recycling process involves converting textile waste, such as old jeans and production scraps, into a dissolving pulp from which man-made cellulosic fibers are created.

The dissolving process begins by collecting textile waste from cotton-based garments due to their high cellulosic content. The collected waste then goes through a purification process where all non-cellulose components, such as plastic or polyester buttons and zippers, are removed. Only the extracted cellulose is retained. The resulting paste is then blended with virgin wood and processed, resulting in a strong 100% man-made cellulose structure similar to Viscose, called CIRCULOSE®.

This circulose fiber is then spun into yarn, which is ultimately knitted in Portugal into the soft interlock structure called PYRATEX® rewear 4.
