Journey to Moscow

Material Story

We set off on a journey to a city steeped in history and adorned with ancient and modern decorative features that define its distinctive architecture. The windows of one of the Seven Sisters buildings lend small touches of turquoise to the tweed by Joseph H Clissold & Son, while the buttons by Gruppo Uniesse Bottoni are arranged to echo the magnificent details of Saint Basil’s Cathedral. The gleaming statues of the Friendship of Peoples Fountain reflect the golden neoclassical shapes found on the Piovese Fashion accessory. The rounded forms by Bottonificio Silga mirror the lines and colours of a metro station we pass through on our way to the State Historical Museum, whose pleasing contrast of red and white spreads across the charming jacquard by Stola. The checked pattern by Airontex recalls the flawless geometries of a building standing tall amid Moscow’s snowy streets. The colourful lines of the Stone Flower Fountain are reflected in the elegant Paisley design by Stam Art Group, while the motif by Target Tessuti a Maglia draws inspiration from the extravagant ornaments of Red Square. Moscow’s architectural splendour is not limited to its cathedrals. Even underground, where we pause while waiting for the train, dazzling chandeliers light up the darkness like the copper-toned pattern on Omniapiega’s pleated fabric. Finally, the metallic elastics by Nastrificio De Bernardi evoke the atmosphere of the imposing Mercury City Tower, proudly holding the title of Russia’s tallest skyscraper.
