In Milan

Material Story

For once, let us set aside the image of a capital of frenzy and relentless work, and instead be transported by the more poetic and suggestive side of Milan, where Gothic splendour fuses with the grace of Art Nouveau in a union that invites exploration. Seated on the tram, we approach the majestic Arco della Pace, its solemn geometry reflected in the wool blend by Tessitura Sidoti, evoking a sculptural elegance. We disembark and, step by step, head towards the Duomo, whose soaring vertical lines – so majestic yet austere – are softened through the gentle alpaca zigzag by Supermoda. Entering the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, we are enveloped by the vaulted ceiling overhead, its graceful curves echoing the sinuous design of the accessory by Zanchi Giovanni. Back outside, beside the Duomo, we’re struck by the Aperol terrace, its amber light breaking through the whiteness of the wall, recalling the tones of the pattern by Erica Industria Tessile. As we continue our walk, a building with a rounded corner catches our eye: its structure ideally transforms into a soft plaid, like the beige cotton by Albini 1876, while the grey tartan by Besani interweaves with the regular lines of the walls framing the tram tracks. A little further on, another Art Nouveau building is tinged with a soft, sophisticated pink, mirrored in the delicate viscose and lyocell by Tessitura di Albizzate – T.B.M. Group. We move on to a more contemporary district, where the shades of the pleated fabric by Omniapiega reflect the modernity of the glass skyscrapers. Right in the heart of the skyscrapers, at sunset, amber light stretches across the horizon, bathing the city in warmth – just like the ribbons by Vostex, whose hues create a captivating contrast between warmth and urbanity. Our day ends along the Navigli, where we head for an aperitivo. Here, the deep black of Fabritex – Outside denim begins to fade, allowing orange and blue hues to paint the twilight sky: a final visual gift from a Milan that, unexpectedly, has chosen to reveal its hidden beauty.
