Terraces

Material Story

Terraces texturize the slope with great descending, wavy steps. Nature reigns supreme in these spectacular structural works, which people sometimes alter following the spontaneity of primordial forms. Sedimentary rock creates irregularly square shapes, a rough, crumbling surface recalls the pale curls of a fabric by Tessile Fiorentina Company. Like an open-air white room, the straight, lumpy walls of a limestone quarry recall a knit fabric by Brito Knitting. The soft, harmonious colours of agricultural terraces under construction down the hillside attract the attention of Unizip. Under water, stone turns ochre yellow, a shaded colour providing inspiration for Panama Trimmings. A bright green layer of slippery algae, like bright embroidery by Workingmenblues, covers the rocks emerging from natural pools, while the pure blue of uncontaminated water recalls a print by SET. In Asia rice paddies blend into the mossy-looking environment. Smooth steps of wet, fertile earth attract DEB in the creation of brown-coloured buttons, while Maglificio Alto Milanese sees the water imitate the sky in a mosaic of indentations, and reproduces its appearance in the fine weave of a knit fabric. The herringbone weave by Lanificio Nello Gori recalls the great steps on the slopes of a mountain at altitude. Hot water rising from natural springs contrasts with cold mountain air, creating thick clouds of steam that inspire the shaded weft of TMG Textiles.
