Material Story

A fascination for objects and the bonds they symbolise. Objects tell stories, about a past time, passion or beloved memory belonging to those who collect them because of nostalgia or on a whim. Piovese Fashion’s labels are inspired by the earliest of all collections: stamps. The little squares decorating our correspondence feature a wide variety of characters. Zigzagging encyclopaedic titles form the black and rainbow herringbone by Picchi, while the crests on the buttons and other leather accessories by A.C.M. are reminiscent of ‘80s patches and badges much sought after in street markets. Kept in perfect conditions for years, the figurines of idols are still bright and colourful. The pop graphic of old maps reworks the houndstooth pattern on a Miss Accessori scarf. Cucchetti Tessuti’s fabric is inspired a child’s glimmering mineral collection. A photographer’s basement is no longer big enough to house his vast collection of vintage cameras. Metal grey lenses gleam in a black line, like a striped fabric by Borghi 1819, while stacks of rare coins in a box resemble buttons by Metalbottoni. Blue flowers are preserved in a novel, a romantic hobby recalling a delicate lace by Tessitura Colombo Antonio. The checked fabric by Somelos Tecidos has the vintage look of pastel-coloured model cars, while Deveaux’s looks hand-painted like matryoshka dolls.
