Steiff Schulte Webmanufaktur GmbH was founded at the beginning of the 20th century and has been producing three-dimensional pile fabrics, manufactured exclusively at their Duisburg location in Germany.
As a supplier of mohair fabrics to the world-famous Steiff toy company, they specialise in the production of faux fur using natural mohair and alpaca wool fibres that are non-mulesed. Pile fabrics made from diverse fibres such as hemp, bamboo, paper, linen, soya, wool and cotton are also part of the product range and are suitable for fashion and interiors.

Cotton yarns are GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified. Steiff Schulte’s highly flexible weaving factory is a fully integrated textile company, which includes warping, weaving, dyeing, finishing and quality control, all at a single location.

This enables them to achieve high-quality standards and allows them to implement the smallest quantities in individual customer
colours available from 30 metres.

Sustainability and Animal welfare

MOHAIR:
Steiff Schulte’s mohair is from Responsible Mohair Standard (RMS)-certified farms in South Africa that follow sustainable mohair production guidelines regulated by the industry in the region. RMS provides the industry with a tool to recognize the best practices of farmers, ensures that mohair comes from farms that have a progressive approach to managing their land,
practises holistic respect for animal welfare of the goats and respects the Five Freedoms of animal welfare.
RMS also ensures a strong chain of custody for certified materials as they move through the supply chain.

ALPACA:
The Alpaca fibres come from family-run farms in Peru with organic agriculture.
The fibres are inherently more sustainable because of the animals’ way of grazing.
Alpacas produce more fleece than sheep and their fleece does not contain oil or lanolin, reducing processing impacts. Alpaca fibres also come in a wide range of 22 natural colours, which reduces the need for dyeing.
